I just forwarded the most recent Michael Moore letter to my dad, with a little note...and it occurred to me that I should link it here also...so I will.
This may or may not interest you. I'm sure there are several of you who will vote for Bush, no matter which person ends up as his opponent. (I'm pretty sure my Dad is toasting marshmalllows by the fire in that camp, also.) I don't post this in hopes of changing anyone's mind about anything, actually...but I figure that your sense of curiosity might like to see what the most liberal of the liberal is spouting.
As some of you know (and the rest could guess), I'm a big "fan" of Michael Moore. He takes the facts and manipulates them into the best use for his case, like anyone...so I'm sure that like all of this books/speeches, a point by point rebuttal would be child's play for any pundit...and certainly for several of you.
BUT most of the time he says what he says with all of *my* opinions at heart...and nearly all the time, achieving what he sets out the achieve with his ranting would suit *my* political stances very nicely.
SO I'm glad he makes these arguments accessible to the baseball-cap-wearing masses. And hopefully, for those that choose to disagree with him totally, well...at least he'll give them a pile of people to argue with, and maybe...just maybe...the end result will be making the world a slightly more liberal place.
And I'm all for that... ;)
Go here to read the letter, in which Michael Moore details why he'll be voting for Wesley Clark in the primary.
Posted by amy at January 15, 2004 08:54 AMMust... restrain... self... *twitches* Of the Dems, Joe Lieberman and maybe John Edwards would be acceptable to me, but yeah, I'd still vote for Bush.
I suppose I should warn you that on Day 4 of my London/Dublin adventure, there's an anti-Michael Moore rant, which is completely unprompted by this article (it'll be mostly as typed in one furious sitting aboard Ryanair 117 LGW-DUB). I just don't want you to think it's a personal attack on you over this article, 'cause it isn't at all.
Moore's right about one thing in that letter -- of the Angry Lefties in the race, Wesley Clark has the best chance of beating Bush, and if you're in the political game, winning the election has to be the primary goal. I'm not sure the Deanie Babies understand that, and that's not good for the political health of the country -- grand ideological flame-outs may be fun, but they don't win you any friends going forward, and they don't do anything to control the excesses of the other side. I don't think any of the ALs have a *good* chance of beating Bush (I'd be MUCH more concerned by Lieberman as the Dem nominee, who (not surprisingly (yay, nested parentheses)) is completely unsatisfactory to Moore), but that's why they play the game -- to see who wins.
lol. you wacky liberals. ;)
In all honesty, the Dems are looking like they are in complete disarray at the moment. Wesley Clark is their best option if they want to win, but Dean is leading. From what I've heard about Dean, he is a super far-left fellow who will have a hard time riding the fence like he would need to to win the election. Much like Buchanon. Only. . . totally different. Well, you know what I mean.
By the way, I haven't read Michael Moore's article yet, I'm just spouting based on the other comment. :)
Yeah.
Pat, meet Josh. Josh, meet Pat.
Y'all would get along great...
Dear WIS, Loved the photologue of Paree; spent over an hour...read all captions. Keep writing/ observing, you've got loads of talent...a real raconteur. Need a proofreader?
Why the disdane for the proletariat? Haven't the
French taught you anything about egalitarianism?
Bush, Clark, Dean...take your pick; they're all the same: megalomaniacal egos! Check out some down-home, populist politickin' @ zipcogent.com; it's a no-brainer. I carry my ccd everywhere, too. Perge Modo! VTY, TCP
I haven't paid too much attention to the election yet, but I'm pretty sure I won't be voting for Bush. I have been unimpressed with his domestic policy, and I was not a fan of the decision to invade Iraq. That being said, we need to finish what we started over there.
Hi Amy
Thanks for introducing this interesting and controversial subject.
I moved from France to US shortly before Bush was elected (??) president. Then I moved to NYC shortly before 9/11. All was fine at the beginning with a big internationnal support. Then started the big mess :axis of evil, the preparation of the war,the war itself (far to be done), the lies....
I amazed that Bush was allowed to do all the mistakes he did without too much protestation (except few anti-war demonstration in the big cities) and if he is reelected it is pretty scary .
For me I wish to see him collecting samples for the next 4 years on Mars and looking for oil :)
I wish the baseball-cap-wearing masses were less controlled by the media and start reading the international news (I don't talk about CNN of course ) on internet and became aware of the world outside ... Watching Moore documentaries to challenge their opinions will be good also even if they don't agree.
Well it is a long way to go I think and I hope the next president will do something to fix this mess

ummm...what's with all the prejudice against baseball caps? my grandfather was a yellow-dog democrat and wore one every day of his life--it covered up his shiny head. now, us liberals got to be careful about not promoting prejudice of that kind. accept against mosquitos. i think everyone can agree that mosquitoes are pure evil.
;)
Lolo, I'm with you--Mars would be a great place to send Bush. ;) More importantly, you mention keeping up with some sort of international media. I couldn't agree more. Being in France with the French/European bias makes me even more conscious of the American media bias. Of course, ALL news is biased...but the average American (not the late 20's early 30's internet-using crowd in my demographic, but the real average) gets their news from the television. Geography alone almost ensures that they'll see news ONLY from American outlets (with a fair share of flag-waving mixed in for effect). Whereas (again, because of geography) Eurpoeans are almost guaranteed--at bare minimum, without cable or satellite--to have their own country's media, plus the "european news"...and here we've also got that tie with Germany through Arte. And that's only out of the 5 channels that anyone with a TV has! Factor in a decent selection of international newspapers at *any* newsstand, and you've got a real chance for an international perspective...with very little effort.
(Of course, those who make the effort in either place won't have too much trouble, which is why it's important for folks to seek out something other than the TV for news. I don't mean to sound preachy, but I realize upon reading this that I do. Oh well...I'm among friends, I hope!)
And Shan, nothing against the caps--just that MM usually wears one! ...and I assume he chooses to look like he does in order to appeal to the typical American on the street... I'm with you on the mosquitoes too--pure evil--that's a political word, right? ;)
It seems that it was only yesterday that we were constantly whining and bitching about the supposedly "liberal" media. How times have changed. Sniff, sniff.
And I think we can all agree that mosquitoes are evil and should be banished from the face of the earth. Die mosquitoes! Die!!!
The same liberal blather was present when Mr Schnicklegroober (sp?) started his rearming in violation of the treaty of Versailles. Ahh if someone would have stepped up to the responsibility of stopping him...lives would have been lost, but not 65 million. Having said that, I don't like being lied to eather but I don't think that W was the one who lied but was another that was misled by faulty G2.
Michael Moore is a scum sucking communist who does nothing but manipulatate the truth because he can't support his claims with facts.
