I saw this several places...seemed like a good thing to spend a half-hour on.
Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says.
"minable stretch of galleries devoted to death and devastation."
That's from Sarah Turnbull's "Almost French" and the "minable" is a continuation of the "inter-" found at the end of line 3. She's describing part of the Louvre. I'm about halfway through the book (on loan from Vickie) and am really enjoying it...for obvious reasons, I guess.
Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?
My big ugly sofa bed. When I use the computer in the new apartment, I sit twisted on the big ugly loveseat. (The tendency to be all twisted as I sit here is part of the reason that I'm not on the computer so much anymore. One could argue that I should untwist, but really how fun is that...)
What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Does CNN International count? If not, perhaps Larry King Live on CNN International? Today it was about Condoleezza Rice's testimony. In fact, CNN all day so far has seemingly been about Condoleezza Rice's testimony. I didn't realize until just now that she has TWO EE's and TWO ZZ's in her name. Bonus. If I don't count CNN, I think the last television show would probably be "Sept à la Maison" (Seventh Heaven).
Don't laugh.
With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
The Dirty Dancing Commentary on my DVD player. I'm going through a commentary phase--it's ideal to listen while I crochet. Some traffic on the street below. Some construction in the apartment above. My washer/dryer...currently washing.
When did you last step outside?
Just now, but I only went down to get the mail (nothing interesting). Other than that, last night I left at around 6 to go to church, and got home around midnight. The bomb threat on my RER line made it impossible to go home at 8:45 when I wanted to, so Samy and I caught a movie. Runaway Jury...third time for me.
Before you came to this website, what did you look at?
Yaho0 Mail...to start a second adress while I'm in the states. I get tons of spam on my normal account, but I never really see it thanks to PopFile. When I'm gone though, checking over the net is a pain. I really ought to just stop using my vt accounts...it's all going there. :(
What are you wearing?
Low-rise boot cut jeans (some cheap brand, undoubtedly) with a pink ribbed t-shirt. It's the same shirt that I once had on inside-out when I went to teach at 8am. Ha. Just call me the absent-minded professor. I think of that every time I wear it. We all got a good laugh that day...me and my 100 students... In fact, I was so amused by it that even after I changed it between classes, I went ahead and told the other section about it too...so there's another 100 students. :)
Did you dream last night?
I'm sure I did...and in fact, I remembered it this morning (as I almost always do) but it's gone now.
When did you last laugh?
Just now, when I thought about the day my shirt was inside-out. :)
What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Wallpaper. It's sort of peach-colored and textured. We had originally thought we'd paint or re-paper, so we didn't hang any pictures or paintings. Now the wallpaper is growing on us, so probably we'll just wash the walls really well and then go ahead and hang stuff. But for now, they're pretty bare.
Seen anything weird lately?
Last night, they closed off the metro station at Etoile pretty well...that looked pretty weird walking up to it...plenty of gates and whatnot. On the net, this is probably the weirdest thing I've seen recently.
What do you think of this quiz?
It had me at hello. I mean "grab"...
What is the last movie you saw?
As I've already mentioned, I'm listening to commentary from Dirty Dancing and last night I saw Runaway Jury. But since you already knew that, I'll give you some more info...The day before yesterday I saw Osama and Capturing the Friedmans.
If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?
I think I covered that decently here.
Tell me something about you that I don't know:
Tough. Some people reading know me better than others...let's try...
The first two tapes I ever bought were Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual". I had gone into the store (Jamesway, in South Jersey) with the intention of only buying Thriller, but being the impulse spender that I was (all the way through my single life, in fact), I bought them both. The week after, I was was really sick and stayed home from school. I listened to the Cyndi Lauper album all week, and was filled with guilt over cheating Michael out of airtime on my tape player that should have been his. I was in third grade.
If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
My very first instinct for answering this question is that I'd re-set the distribution of wealth worldwide. But that probably wouldn't really change much in the long run, because for the most part the rich countries would end up rich again, and the poor countries would probably continue to be poor. (It's that whole "give a man a fish" thing.)
So instead, I'd magically bring all of the world's educational systems up to par...no, better than par...birdie, I guess...
Do you like to dance?
I love to dance. As a child, I did ballet for about 8 years. Then in high school, I enjoyed dancing in musicals (especially tapping in Anything Goes). In college, shag and swing kept me busy. Samy and I have been talking about taking a ballroom dancing class...but we keep getting sidetracked. We really must do that!
George Bush:
Don't get me started.
Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
I like the name Emma.
Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?
I don't know.
Would you ever consider living abroad?
Um...yeah. ?
