i'm still alive

Yes, so I was in the states for one month...but I've been home for another month...and this is the first time I've bothered to write a tiny little entry in this sorry blog to say I'm still alive. Were you worried?

Am I a bad person for being so lazy?

So yes, I was in the states. This is what I did:

  • I celebrated 30 years of Wesley Singers with about 200 of my closest friends. (No, I haven't been there for 30 years...I haven't even been alive for 30 years...quite yet. But I was there for 8, which is a long time to be in/around college...and I've gone back for every reunion since I left, a tradition that I hope to continue).
  • I went to my cousin's wedding. In the words of my dad, "it seems to have taken." I.e, they're still married.
  • I saw David Wilcox at The Barns at Wolftrap in Northern VA. It was a great concert in that he sang a lot...and his wife sang with him quite a bit too. The down-side to that is that he only told one story...and for those of you who know Wilcox, you know that's a loss!
  • Held the second annual Girls' Weekend with Rumple and Mandy in Atlantic City/New York City. We won big in Atlantic City (at least, big enough to fund the rest of our evening and pay for parking) and then we saw Rent on Broadway the next day. We were just up and back to New York for a day trip, so it was quick...but we still had a nice time. Rent was pretty good. I had never been much of a fan of the music when everyone around me was...but I think it's because I hadn't mentally classified it as a "rock opera"...and was therefore comparing it to the wrong stuff.
  • I did a heck of a lot of geocaching with my Dad (and brother, and some other friends). This is something I first read about online nearly two years ago when I moved here, but since I don't have a GPS I couldn't really get into it. Dad's GPS led us on lots of nice hikes. We also got into plenty of ticks, and Dad got poison ivy. I am apparently not allergic. Dad is apparently QUITE allergic 'cause he had it for a good strong month.

OK, so that was my trip. Since I've been home, I've mostly been up to the usual...movies, cafés, walking in the city, spending time with friends, reading, crocheting... I've also been tutoring english (as I have for 9 months now) and babysitting in the mornings for the cutest baby in the world (3-month-old son of a good friend from church). ...And I was a witness in my friend Vickie's wedding! All of the festivities were in Montmartre, where they live, and we had a blast--congrats Vickie and Emmanuel!

Although we haven't done jack squat yet, Samy and I are really hoping to start doing some work on the flat this summer...so that's the plan for the next couple of months. Well, next month actually, because we're going to the states for the month of August. Yes, Samy will actually be taking vacation time (after losing so much of it this year due to the fact that he works like an American). We're going to take full advantage of his very generous vacation time to visit the states while the exchange rate is still favorable. We'll be there for at least a month...using (get this) HALF of his yearly vacation allowance (45 days...9 weeks).

Hopefully now I can be back in the habit of writing here every few days...we'll see. Josh wrote this cool entry a little while back, which made me realize that I have seen lots of amazing things in my travels...and I may be inspired to write a little bit about them at some point in the near future. It could happen...! :) Watch this space.

Glad you're back, and thanks for the link!

I don't suppose I can complain too much about your lack of recent posts, since I went AWOL for three weeks without having a good excuse like being out of the country. ;-)

Woohoo! What a nice surprise to see a new post! Welcome back, and I look forward to reading more. You should give the travelogue thing a shot. I like to live vicariously through other people's travels. :)

hey amy! I told tom to write about the geocaching on tspn, and he has NOT! I do agree however, that is sports-like in nature!

    Good luck with the redesigning!!!
