the bean

Flashback to Valentine's Day. This was the big news in our household:

So now, I'm 12 weeks pregnant! I just had my first ultrasound on Saturday and it was so exciting to see that tiny baby...totally formed...looking like a real person!

For the moment, we're calling it The Bean...you know...to avoid personal pronouns until we know whether we'll have a daughter or son. Anyway, The Bean was moving all over the place, nodding its head and waving its arms. The primary purpose of the 12-week ultrasound in France is to date the pregnancy (of course) and also to measure the thickness of the neck (a strong indicator for Down's syndrome). Well, The Bean was not at all interested in showing us a profile (too busy dancing), so the ultrasound took longer than usual, allowing us an even longer peek into its little world. So we have lots of nice pictures of its little head and hands...

...as well as its spine, etc.

But the MONEY SHOT was when (I kid you not), that baby did a little go-go kick and we got this vision of its little chicken leg...foot, calf, knee, thigh and rump included!

We heard The Bean's heartbeat, and learned that the bean's femur is currently 6.6 mm long. The perimeter of The Bean's head is 75 mm. The Bean's stomach, bladder, and liver are well-placed. And my favorite sentence from the report is this one: "Les proportions du visage sont harmonieuses.".... The proportions of the face are harmonious. :)

So, I'm going to be someone's MOM. Wow.

Wow, that's so exciting for you guys! Congratulations, Amy and Samy! Here's to you and harmonious face proportions. I sense a lifelong nickname in store for The Bean... anyway, I'm definitely very happy for you guys.

See you in a couple of weeks at Wesley Weekend, hopefully!

Mandy (April 5, 2005 07:50 PM):

Congratulations! Love all the pictures! Maybe you should start scouting out ballet schools now? ;o)

Hope you have a wonderful (nausea-free) pregnancy!

Much love,
Mandy

Between the on-screen dancing and the harmonious face, the chances are good you've got a musical Bean there. (Not that there could be much doubt, given its parents...)

Congratulations, Amy and Samy!

Christian Rinderknecht (April 7, 2005 11:23 AM):

Congratulations!

Could the Bean be a Mr Bean? :)

No soy bean around yet...

Wow... I felt the need to add to the inordinate number of "wows" that have been posted so far. So now I'm just another wow. I wish I were a bean. That's way cooler than being a wow. Congratulations, Amy and Samy. We all hope your bean grows into a beautiful green bean or snap pea (I suppose that's not in the bean family).

Love, Rumple

Amy, congratulations to you and Samy! Wow. The baby-boom has officially started. We know of 5 couples all due within the August-October time frame. Craziness!
