procrastination

Yeah, I know...I get back online and then I don't actually write anything. I'm pathetic.

Just after I updated the last time, Samy and I headed out west. Yes, further out west. In fact, we couldn't have gone any further west unless we had brought our bathing suits. We spent labor day weekend in San Diego with some of our very dearest friends, and had a lovely time. The weather was incredible, and the whole trip was very relaxing. It was a very easy six-hour drive (with a whopping ONE real city on the way where we could get gas and take a break). So even living in the desert, we're not too far from the beach to take a weekend trip!

Then this past Saturday, we went to the Desert Museum, and we had such a blast! We were there from about 9am until 1pm, and we didn't even melt from the heat. All of animals were out, seemingly posing just for us. We even saw baby hummingbirds in a nest. We were given a year-long membership as a welcome gift from Samy's boss, so we will be going back....LOTS. Most of the park is sidewalk-type trails, so The Bean and I can head out there regularly just as soon as it cools off just a bit here (which I hear should be starting in the next few weeks).

In between these exciting weekend events, I've mostly just continued unpacking and organizing the house. In addition, since we got the new carpet installed, I've started setting up the nursery. With the latest addition of a cherry glider, I can now say that we have all the major furniture we will need. (This includes a changing table and crib for the nursery, and a bassinet for our bedroom for when she is very very small.) Also, last week I bought the stroller and infant car seat.

So at minimum, we can bring The Bean home safely in our vehicle and she will have somewhere to sleep. That would be the bassinet, of course. She can't sleep in the crib yet, because it has no sheets...but the bassinet provides the ever-important time-buffer for some healthy procrastination. Can you believe she's due to arrive in just one month? Yes, in only one short month, I'll be someone's mother.

Speaking of procrastination, tonight we start childbirth classes. (This procrastination was totally not our fault--tonight is the first start-date since we've been in town.) There are five classes total...the fifth one being only days before my due date.

So I'm hoping that either The Bean doesn't come too early, or they teach us the important stuff TONIGHT.
