two reasons

There are only two reasons that I end up awake at 3am.

Either Claire is not sleeping.

Or Claire is sleeping.

If she's NOT sleeping well, I'm up because I've just had to get up with her and can't fall back asleep.

If she IS sleeping well, my body wakes up anyway and I end up watching the clock...(that makes 6 hours!...6 and a half hours!...7 hours!...7 hours, 15 minutes!...7 and a half hours!...etc.) And as you can see, that means that waiting in bed to fall back asleep is a total waste of time. I end up only marvelling in my head at how well Claire is sleeping--thus totally defeating the purpose of a child that sleeps well.

Anyway, since she turned 4 months old, she stopped doing her 7-8 hour spurts of sleep (which she's been doing consistently for a long long time), and she went back to waking twice a night (typically every four hours). It had only been a few days' worth of that when we went for her 4-month checkup, and when I mentioned this and a few other slightly "not claire" behaviours, her doctor wasn't worried at all. I asked if she could be teething.

He assured me that it was NOT very likely that she was teething. Why? 'Cause most babies aren't.

OK. Try telling that to the little tooth that popped out on Saturday night.

My tiny little baby has a tooth.

And now she's sleeping...well, like a baby.

And I'm awake...like a mom...

We, the Internet Public (or flickr family/friends), hereby request a picture of the said tooth. :)
