steps
September 16, 2006

Claire took two steps in a row on Sept 11. I guess we'll have no trouble remembering the date of that milestone...

I counted them as a fluke, but was quite pleased that they happened in the presence of my grandparents, parents and sister. My grandparents had been predicting that Claire would "walk" while we were there, and in their eyes, she did.

I got in numerous arguments about the semantics with my father, who claimed that she "walked." My view is that "taking steps" is very different than "walking"... Walking means that the child is standing up, and wants to go see something and rather than getting down to crawl there, they just WALK there. Most anything less, to me, is just "taking steps."

Claire took some more steps (4 in a row) yesterday, so I do suspect we're getting very near a whole new level of babyproofing. The idea of her walking is somewhat sad to me, because it means she's growing up.

She has also started signing "milk"...which (on the other hand) makes me really HAPPY, because it means she's growing up.
